SASANIAN KINGS. Kavadh I, second reign, 499-531. Drachm (Bronze, 28 mm, 2.50 g, 2 h). Within a beaded circle, draped bust of Kavadh I to right, wearing a mural crown with a frontal crescent and korymbos set on a crescent; star to left; before head, ‘kwʾt’ = ‘Kawād’ (‘Kavadh’ in Pahlavi); illegible Pahlavi legend in the margin. Rev. Diademed and draped male bust to right, wearing a round cap and raising his right hand; two triangular ribbons behind head; to right and left, ‘štlywl – yzdt’ = ‘Šahrewar yazad’ (‘God Shahrewar’ in Pahlavi); illegible Pahlavi legend in the margin. Göbl type II/4; SNS III/2, type Ib/3b. Rare. Patina stripped and with a ragged edge, otherwise, about very fine.
